• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Three 8–10 week sessions during Fall, Winter, and Spring with weekly classes running 1.5–2 hours for seven to nine consecutive weeks, plus week-long musical theater day camps in the summer
Christian Youth Theater develops character and creativity through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting Jesus. Instructors are professionals, qualified in teaching and/or performing. CYT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization and is described as the largest after-school theater arts training program in the nation, with branches in 17 states that trained more than 20,000 young people annually as of March 2018. CYT San Antonio began in 2010 with founders Sandi Mitchell and Christine Ramirez, with Chris Norris serving as Managing Director, and CYT San Antonio-New Braunfels was one of the first CYTs in the nation to have its own studio.
CYT San Antonio serves students in Bulverde, Seguin, San Antonio, and Kyle and brings families and communities together. Each local CYT program offers camps and classes for ages 4–18 and full-scale productions for ages 8–18, and students enrolled in classes can audition and perform or work behind the scenes in Broadway-style musicals performed for the community, with two Broadway-style musicals produced each session. Students must be 8 at the time of auditions to audition for productions, and CYT shows are described as appropriate for the entire family and as a way to introduce children to the arts. Class sizes are small and include supervision inside and outside the classroom, and during the last week of class, each class presents a high-energy Showcase. CYT programming also includes Decathlon and Christian Community Theater (CCT).
CYT stands in the forefront in its commitment to the highest ethical, moral, technical, and artistic standards of excellence. The Safety Scene program is a CYT National initiative that goes beyond background checks to prevent, detect, and respond to physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse in CYT programming, and CYT is committed to maintaining a community free of harassment, misconduct, or abuse of any kind, including verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual. CYT was founded in 1980, and in 2015 CYT San Antonio moved into its studio in New Braunfels.
