Rockwall School of Music offers private music lessons, small group classes for beginners, and special interest classes and camps. Students can take guitar, ukulele, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and voice lessons, including early-day lessons for homeschoolers. The program also includes recitals and festivals during the year.

Rockwall School of Music has been helping families make music for over 30 years and has instructed thousands of students, currently serving an active enrollment of over 900 students and providing about 3,600 lessons each month. The school has 56 highly qualified music teachers and offers the largest selection of university-trained teaching faculty in one location, with orientation scheduled for a portion of the first lesson and options for make-up lessons with a regular or different instructor. Russ and Karen Porter, co-owners of the school, each hold a bachelor’s degree in Music from Ouachita Baptist University and a master’s degree in music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of North Texas, respectively.
The Rockwall School of Music states that musicians become better players by becoming better performers and offers multiple performance opportunities throughout the year with no additional costs for recital participation. Piano and voice students can also participate in Rockwall Music Teachers Association Festivals in the fall through spring, where they perform in front of a judge and receive a competitive ranking. The school uses the Musical Ladder Achievement Program and offers flexible scheduling options, early classes for homeschoolers, and full-time professional customer service seven days a week.
Rockwall School of Music has earned the Lakeside Living Best of Music Lessons Award for ten consecutive years and reports having earned more than 22 awards overall. Families from across Rockwall County and from areas such as Sunnyvale, Forney, Greenville, and Wylie drive to take lessons at this school.
Students are encouraged to bring all needed books, assignments, and materials to each lesson, and books and materials can be purchased through the school and added to the monthly invoice or paid by cash or check. New students are asked to arrive 5 minutes early to complete paperwork, and students are encouraged to arrive at least 5 minutes before their scheduled lesson time. Parents have shared testimonials noting long-term enrollment, positive experiences with teachers and staff, scheduling flexibility, and enjoyment of lessons in instruments such as drums.
