The YMCA of Central Texas conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. Financial assistance is offered to individuals and families who cannot afford membership, and the YMCA of Central Texas states that it is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment where all are welcome and have access to Y programs and services. Campers are asked to bring a nut-free lunch and a water bottle, and a snack is provided.
The mission of the YMCA of Central Texas is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA of Central Texas’ Licensed Child Care Department provides Afterschool for grades K–5th and Preschool for infants to 5 years, and has partnerships with school districts and community businesses. Spring Break and Summer Camps are offered at various ISDs around Williamson County and in WISD, and the YMCA of Central Texas provides financial aid for memberships, making programs and services accessible to all, regardless of affordability.
The history of the YMCA of Central Texas began during the 1970s, when the Round Rock United Way formed a committee to study the feasibility of a community-owned and operated youth facility, which led to a United Way “Youth Contingency Fund” in 1976. Over time, community partners such as the Trinity Lutheran Home, the Jim Mills family, and the Texas Baptist Children’s Home contributed property and building space that supported youth and child care programs. The YMCA of Greater Williamson County established its first school-based after-school program in 1989 by partnering with Round Rock ISD, and the organization later adopted a metropolitan structure and expanded programs to additional communities. The current leadership team for youth and child care programs includes roles such as Vice President of Youth Development, District Executive Directors, Associate Executive Directors, a Youth Development Senior Business Manager, and child development center directors and interim directors.
