Waterloo Swimming offers a swimming school with group, private, and semi-private swim lessons, Learn to Swim programming, Waterloo Babies and Waterloo Toddlers, Stroke School, and Swim Fit. The program also includes swim fitness, a competitive year-round swim team, Summer League Prep, Spring Break programming, Kid Fitness, Special Needs classes, Blitz classes, a Mermaid class, Water Polo Summer Camp, Waterloo Aerobics Class, Special Olympics Team, adult swim programs, masters swimming, and triathlon training. Families can also access Waterloo Wherever and use a downloadable app to manage their Waterloo Swimming account and class registrations.

• Schedule: Weekly group classes that meet every week on the day and time a family chooses; two 6-week lesson sessions are offered during the summer in the original outdoor program

Waterloo Swimming offers free swim lesson and swim fitness evaluations on Saturdays between 12:30pm and 1:30pm at all locations with no appointment needed, and free swim team evaluations on Saturdays at the 620 and Round Rock locations, where swimmers are asked to be at the pool at 12:30pm and ready to swim by 12:45pm, with evaluations closing at 12:45pm. Every swimmer, except those in private lessons and adult swimmers, is required to complete an evaluation before registration is complete unless otherwise approved by Waterloo, and this evaluation requirement also applies to swimmers who have not taken Waterloo programming for 90 days or more. For evaluations and USA Swimming Team tryouts, swimmers are asked to bring a swimsuit and towel, with goggles and a swim cap optional, and families are asked to bring their family schedule to discuss class days and times.

All coaches and instructors at Waterloo Swimming complete the Waterloo Swim School Instructor Training Certification Program, which covers the program’s philosophy, teaching style, and practical application, and instructors are certified in Community First Aid and CPR. The owner and director is Mike Varozza, whose swimming career includes NCAA Swimming All-American, US Swimming 1988 Olympic Trials Qualifier, and current US Masters Swimming National and World Record Holder, and his coaching career has been influenced by American Swim Coaches Association Honor of Fame coaches Jay Fitzgerald and Dick Jochums; Mike holds both a BA and an MBA. Gwyn Varozza is described as “the Queen of All Things Out of the Water” and is the wife of Coach Mike and mother to Preston, Kyle, and Staley.

Waterloo Swimming began as Waterloo Swim School, LLC in fall 2009 and started in 2010 in a four-lane outdoor country club pool, opening that summer with 5 instructors and 50 swimmers for 12 weeks and offering two 6-week lesson sessions. Special Needs, Masters, and Blitz classes were added in summer 2011, Kid Fitness was added in summer 2012, and by summer 2013 there were over 200 swimmers in programming. By summer 2015 there were over 400 swimmers, the first Junior National swimmer appeared in fall 2015, and the indoor swim center opened in June 2016. Purple lesson classes for early beginner swimmers were offered starting April 2018, Mermaid class grew in summer 2018, and by September 2018 there were over 1,200 lessons and 400 team swimmers with new team groups for older swimmers. Waterloo Wherever was created in June 2020, Waterloo Central opened in March 2021, Waterloo broke into the Top 5 in Texas Age Group Swimming in 2022, Water Polo Summer Camp was created in June 2023, the Round Rock location opened in September 2024, Waterloo Aerobics Class launched at Central in February 2025, Waterloo won its first Sectionals Team Title in March 2025, and the program celebrates 15 years of serving Central Texas and launches a Special Olympics Team at Round Rock in June 2025.

The teachers at Waterloo Swimming state that they have created a swim culture that supports safe swimming practices and a true love of the water and the sport, and they focus on progress and results. One parent, Mari A., reports that Waterloo has been a productive and encouraging experience for all three of her children over four years, notes that each coach has been as dedicated to a swimmer in Swim Fit as to a younger swimmer starting in purple, and calls Waterloo “the best school in the area.” Waterloo Swimming reports having many satisfied clients and a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
