Founded as a single school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1998, School of Rock operates with a mission to be a growing and passionate community dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education. The organization’s leadership team includes Stacey Ryan (President), Sam Dresser (Chief Innovation Officer), Demi Iskandar (Head of Marketing), Eric Schmidt (Vice President of Information Technology), and Jim Love (Vice President of Domestic Franchise Operations). School of Rock uses a patented music education system called the School of Rock Method™, offers programs for all skill levels, ages, and musical aspirations, and combines one-on-one instruction with group rehearsals. Its programs include opportunities for students to perform in real rock venues, a House Band program for students under 18 to join a gigging band, an Adult Program for students over 18 years old, a songwriting program that ends in a live showcase or recorded demo, and a Rookies program that uses simplified rock instruments to teach kids to play music. An independent study has reported boosts in self-confidence and teamwork skills for students after joining School of Rock programs, and the organization has been ranked #1 in Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 list and named a 2026 Top Franchise.
Parent testimonials describe kids making music and learning to play as a band, with impressive performances and visible gains in confidence and self-expression on stage. Other parents report that kids have a great time while learning to play, that lifelong skills and relationships are formed, and that instructors and staff are dedicated, professional, and accommodating. Additional feedback highlights the program structure around learning an instrument and being part of a band, including learning how to communicate, respect others’ opinions, and be accountable, and describes School of Rock as a fun music program with a vibrant atmosphere.
