About

Camp CommUnity offers after-school classes, summer camp sessions, stand-alone workshops, family engagement activities, and community events. The program includes a catalog of immersive, hands-on camps available during the summer, winter, and spring breaks for students in K–8th grade. Activities use a child-centered, TEKS complementary curriculum with an emphasis on ELA, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social and Emotional Learning, and expose students to various career options, fields, industries, and technologies.

Camp CommUnity is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is open to all students and is serving students of WISD in the Texas Hill Country. The program ensures students receive hot, well-balanced, healthy meals daily and creates a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students to explore and take safe risks. It emphasizes experiential, hands-on learning, teaching resilience, self-sustainability, independence, and soft skills such as creative thinking, innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving, and it reinforces students’ resiliency and self-confidence.

Camp CommUnity is a Wimberley-created, community-centered program built for the community by the community, building community through regular family engagement activities and community events. It builds multi-generational connections by empowering residents to share their talents, interests, and trades with students and by tapping into the wealth of knowledge in the community. The CU Leadership Team is a group of community members.

The mission of Camp CommUnity is: “OUR MISSION IS TO ENSURE ALL CHILDREN ARE AFFORDED TO OPPORTUNITY IN SUCCEED AT LIFE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.” In 2022–2023, 71% of the families the program worked with were below the federal poverty line, 59% were minorities, 44% lived in a single-parent household, and 63% had a learning disability.
