About
Walzem Family YMCA Youth Programs include activities such as youth sports, swim lessons, swimming, pickleball, and other sports and recreation options. The program also offers summer day camp, child care, teen education and leadership activities, and a variety of fitness activities. Participants have access to group exercise, health and fitness programs, the EGYM Experience, mental health services and support, a Y Weight Loss Program, a Diabetes Prevention Program, and blood pressure monitoring, along with swim, sports, and play opportunities that focus on water safety and swimming.
• Schedule: Facility hours include Monday–Thursday 7am–1pm and 4pm–7pm, and Friday 7am–1pm, with the facility closed on Saturday and Sunday; holiday hours vary, with limited hours on Labor Day and closures on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day 2026.

Walzem Family YMCA Youth Programs are part of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, which operates state-of-the-art fitness facilities at 11 locations across greater San Antonio, Boerne, Cibolo, and Schertz, along with sports complexes and early learning centers. The YMCA of Greater San Antonio is led locally at this branch by Operations Director & Senior Healthy Living Director Kallie Gower. The organization’s mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
The YMCA of Greater San Antonio is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and was selected as an Impact San Antonio 2023 Grant Award Finalist in the Health and Wellness category. The Y focuses on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility and incorporates core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith into all it does. The Y welcomes everyone, regardless of age, income, ability, ethnicity, or faith, and states that it bridges divides and ensures everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of age, ability, faith, gender, or income. Families can use the Activity Finder tool to explore programming for all ages at the Walzem Family YMCA and search by location, age, day, and activity type. The Y is recognized as a destination for summer day camp, swimming, and fitness activities.
The YMCA of Greater San Antonio reports that it has fostered close collaborations with residents to tackle vital community needs and provides programs and services to the San Antonio community every year. It collaborates with The DoSeum on an immersive children’s environment and participates in a Texas YMCA partnership with the Bezos Family Foundation to increase student access to youth civic engagement opportunities. City Wide Facility Solutions donated $610,000 to support YMCA programs and expand access to services for youth and families in the San Antonio area and other local YMCAs, and the YMCA of Greater San Antonio received a $5,000 Texas Bar Foundation Grant to support the Youth & Government Program. The YMCA of San Antonio launched its 150th Anniversary campaign “Uniting Generations” and engages volunteers who provide resources and support to individuals of all ages and from all walks of life.
Parent and member feedback includes comments that staff are friendly and helpful, that youth sports coaches engage with kids and support skill improvement and friendships, and that aquatics programming has supported children in progressing from barely being able to swim to joining a competitive swim team. Other comments mention that kids enjoy Kids Club and arts and crafts, that group classes are motivating and fun, and that facilities such as the pool, splash pad, equipment, and locker rooms are clean, modern, and well maintained.
