About
Del Ray Youth Camps offers themed weeks that include ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary dance, musical theater, choreography, crafts, and watching age-appropriate movie, TV, and music video clips. Campers take part in activities such as creating prince and princess crafts, making fancy crafts, studying different styles of dance, creating crafts inspired by fairy tales, creating colorful pony and unicorn crafts, and creating crafts and props for their own dance music video. Some sessions also include watching clips from Paw Patrol, Bluey, American Girl Doll videos, Christmas classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Grinch, Fairy Tale movies, My Little Pony, iconic age-appropriate music videos, enjoying winter themed stories, hip hop and cheer dance, acting, singing, and watching movie musicals.
• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: Camps generally run Monday–Thursday in half-day blocks from 9:00–12:00 pm or 1:00–4:00 pm, with most sessions lasting 5 days and one 3-day camp from July 1st–3rd; weekly after camp care is available from 4:00–5:00 pm, and full-day as well as before and after care are available.
• Price: Cost is $403 for a 5-day camp, weekly after camp care costs $50, and families can schedule a first class for $19.
Daily snacks and crafts are included, dancers are grouped by age, and students who register for both a morning and afternoon camp in the same week can bring a lunch and stay from 12:00–1:00 pm at no additional cost. The program offers weekly themes such as Unicorns and Rainbows Ballet and Tap, Paw Patrol Tap and Jazz, Red, White, and Bluey! Tap and Jazz, Me and My Doll Ballet, Christmas In July Ballet and Jazz, Royalty Rules: Prince and Princess Ballet, Fancy Nancy Ballet and Jazz, Happily Ever After Mixed Styles, My Little Pony Ballet, Tik Tok Music Video Jazz/Contemporary/Hip Hop, Freeze with Elsa Ballet and Tap, Hip-Hop & Cheer, Taylor Swift Eras Tour, and Wicked Musical Theatre/Tap. Dancers are welcome at certain camps to come dressed as their favorite prince or princess, wear what Fancy Nancy loves to wear such as butterfly wings, boas, and tutus, dress in their winter best, or dress up as any fairy tale character, and Taylor Swift–themed camps invite “Swifties” to exchange friendship bracelets. Each week, students present a final performance and receive a special Dance Academy of Virginia drawstring bag, and space is limited with pre-registration required.
Del Ray Youth Camps are part of the Dance Academy of Virginia, which describes itself as a premier dance studio founded to inspire confidence and connection through movement and as a vibrant community that offers best-in-class dance education alongside holistic support for body, mind, and heart. The academy offers programs from beginner to academy-level, ensemble, and competition teams, with performance opportunities such as a Spring Recital and studio showings, and by audition and eligibility, youth ensembles, competitions, and Winter/Spring concerts. Dance Academy of Virginia was founded by Katherine Horrigan, who previously worked as a professional dancer and now serves as founder, director, and Founder/CEO, leading a faculty of dance professionals, teachers, and choreographers described as a professional, experienced team. The academy opened its doors as the world closed down and is now celebrating five years of growth and impact.
