The program also includes hands-on activities for exploring concepts such as classification, serration, spatial relationships, and numbers, along with field trips.
• Ages: 2–4 years old
• Schedule: Hours 7am–6pm; Summer Camp runs from the end of the school year through August and also offers seasonal camps during winter and spring breaks
The mission of Northern Virginia Academy of Early Learning - Lincolnia Campus is to provide a warm, nurturing center in which a child’s individuality is recognized and supported by a loving and caring staff, including care that covers physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth. The Lincolnia Campus uses a developmentally appropriate curriculum and has an age-appropriate outdoor playground, secure keypad entry systems, and an electronic access entry system that allows only authorized individuals to enter, with access codes changed often and time sensitive. Most classrooms have observation windows and closed-circuit security cameras monitored from the director’s office or lobby, and teachers conduct strict accountability “name to face” identification procedures during transitions.
The Lincolnia Campus is led by Director Ginny Beatty and District Director Shareese Ladd, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Liberty University and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Capella University and has completed several developmental studies on adolescents from birth to age five. All employees are thoroughly screened and must undergo background checks and federal database fingerprinting before employment. The Northern Virginia Academy of Early Learning has been a leader in early childhood education in the Northern Virginia area since 1996 and has offered families educational childcare since 1974, and the Lincolnia Campus has served hundreds of families in the Alexandria, Virginia area through the years.
The program describes its staff as culturally diverse, highly trained, and caring, and describes the environment as a “home away from home” with stimulating social, emotional, and physical learning opportunities. The Fairfax County community is described as trusting the Lincolnia Campus to offer children a safe, nurturing environment. Emergency preparedness plans are in place for severe weather, fire, lockdown conditions, or other disaster situations, and each school has an emergency evacuation plan, with monthly drills held so staff and children can follow procedures. Meals and snacks are not included for children with food allergies, and these meal or snack exclusions do not affect tuition costs.
One family reports that their daughter progressed to writing, counting, and reading with confidence and describes the environment as nurturing and safe, with teachers who love what they do. Another parent at Lincolnia states that their child attended from just before age 3 until kindergarten and that the curriculum included learning to write a name, ABCs, numbers up to 100, shapes, colors, manners, and social and communication skills. A third parent describes the daycare as reliable and notes that the program tries to stay open on inclement weather days when parents must work.
