About

Operation Purple Camp offers a free weeklong summer camp experience where campers take part in activities such as ziplining, ropes courses, swimming, kayaking, paddling, arts and crafts, creative STEM activities, gaga ball, field sports, and group games. The program also includes a Wall of Honor and flag ceremonies, and campers disconnect from technology and spend time outdoors. Operation Purple Camp is designed to build community, connection, and resilience and is offered exclusively for military-connected children. The curriculum focuses on intentional skill-building and connection to other kids with military life experiences, including experiential learning in resilience, connection, and service. Campers and families are connected to additional resources such as support from mental health professionals, and the program provides a framework for ongoing support long after the camp experience has ended. Military kids attend a free week of camp where they connect with each other and have fun, and they leave camp with pride in their own contributions, meaningful connections with a community of peers, and skills to tackle the challenges of military family life.

Operation Purple Camp is run by the National Military Family Association (NMFA), led by CEO Besa Pinchotti. NMFA states that Military Kids Serve Too and has been celebrating that service since 2004 by providing free weeklong summer camp experiences across the country. Its curriculum is grounded in 57 years of expertise on the military family experience and over 20 years of knowledge surrounding the impact of camp, and NMFA has championed the needs of military families since 1969. This program is powered in part by Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) to honor and empower post-9/11 injured service members, veterans, and their families.

The National Military Family Association reports that it meets all 20 of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance standards for Charity Accountability. It holds an “A” rating from CharityWatch, a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, and ranks at the “Platinum” level on Candid (GuideStar), including a 2023 Platinum Seal of Transparency.
