Pedalheads has been a leader in bike, swim, trail riding, and soccer summer camps and lessons for kids 2–12 of all skill levels since 1986. It offers summer bike camps for kids 2–12 that take kids from training wheels to riding on the road, swim camps and lessons for kids 4 months and up with longer lessons and smaller classes, soccer camps and classes for kids 2–8 that combine teamwork, maximum ball touches, and one-on-one coaching, and trail riding camps for kids 4–10 with at least 2 hours of continuous riding. The program has 35+ years of leadership in kids’ day camps and lessons, has worked with over 600,000 kids through its programs, and operates at 250+ locations across Canada and the US, including 7 US states. Pedalheads has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or discrimination of any kind.
Instructors undergo thorough background checks prior to joining the team and are trained in skill development, safety, class management, and program delivery. For swimming lessons, kids should bring a bathing suit, towel, indoor footwear, a swim diaper for parent and tots class, and optional goggles and swim cap, depending on the pool. For bike camp, kids should bring a bicycle, properly fitted bike helmet, water bottle and snack, mosquito repellent, rain gear and/or sunscreen depending on the weather, a small backpack, weather-appropriate clothes, closed-toe shoes like running or athletic shoes, and any required medication such as an EpiPen; all-day campers also need sunscreen, lunch, extra snacks, and a change of clothes, and the camp is nut-aware and asks families to avoid bringing nuts if possible. For trail riding camp, kids should bring a bike that is ready to ride, at least 14" and without training wheels, with front and back hand brakes and gears, a properly fitted bike helmet, a small backpack they can ride with (no cross bags), a water bottle or hydration pack and snack, weather-appropriate clothes, closed-toe running or athletic shoes (no rain boots or closed-toe sandals), mosquito repellent, rain gear and/or sunscreen depending on the weather, and any required medication such as an EpiPen; all-day campers also need sunscreen, lunch, extra snacks, and a change of clothes, and this camp is also nut-aware and asks families to avoid bringing nuts if possible.
Pedalheads’ mission is to inspire kids to believe in themselves. Pedalheads+ provides no-cost camps and lessons to families with geographical, financial, or other barriers. The founder and CEO is Claudia Sjoberg, who started Pedalheads Swim (formerly Atlantis Programs) in Vancouver, BC, in 1986 at the age of 26. In 2018, Claudia Sjoberg received the 2017 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur TELUS Trailblazer Award.
Parent feedback includes comments about small swim class sizes, clear summaries after each lesson, and instructors described as patient and gentle. One parent from British Columbia reported that their child was swimming by the third day of lessons, another from Ontario described their child going from scared to wanting to return the next week, and a parent from Colorado noted that their child rode many miles in trail camp and was eager to return each day.
