About
Northern Virginia Academy of Early Learning offers childcare for infants and toddlers, preschool programs, before-school care, after-school care, and summer camps. It offers individualized attention so that learning, development, and growth are addressed for each child.
• Ages: 0–12 years old
Northern Virginia Academy of Early Learning has been offering families educational childcare since 1974. It is currently serving the communities of Alexandria and Burke. The mission of the school is to provide a warm, nurturing center in which a child’s individuality is recognized and supported by a loving and caring staff, including care that covers physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth.
The centers are described as warm, nurturing environments, and learning is carried out through play-based learning supported by a loving, caring staff. Quality childcare, preschool, summer camp, and other educational opportunities are available at multiple Northern Virginia Academy of Early Learning school locations. The program emphasizes preparing each child for the journey to elementary school and beyond and building skills needed for a successful life, with child care and safety stated as the number one priority.
All employees are thoroughly screened and must undergo background checks and Federal database fingerprinting before they can be employed. Teachers receive ongoing training, with an emphasis on meeting high standards for early childhood education and child care services, and the staff is described as professional, dedicated, and enthusiastic. Teachers conduct strict accountability “name to face” identification procedures to ensure all children are accounted for while transitioning to and from classrooms, playgrounds, buses, and throughout the day.
Most classrooms have observation windows and closed-circuit security cameras that are monitored from the director’s office or in the lobby. The schools are equipped with an electronic access entry system that allows only authorized individuals to enter, with access codes that are changed often and are time sensitive. Teachers will not release a child to any unknown person without written authorization and proper identification.
All schools have emergency preparedness plans in place for severe weather, fire, lockdown conditions, or other disaster situations, along with an emergency evacuation plan at each school. Monthly drills are held so staff and children practice following these procedures calmly and quickly.
