About

Centreville UMC Youth Missions involves youth and adults in service projects through several partner organizations. Participants serve the homeless in DC through Teens Opposing Poverty, including preparing, packaging, and distributing food, talking with homeless people through the street ministry, and joining a special “Cinco de Mayo” trip where tacos are distributed. The program also includes delivering warm and healthy dinners to neighbors in need near Fairfax Circle through the FACETS Hot Meals program, providing volunteer home repair and additions in Central Appalachia through Appalachia Service Project, and traveling to Sneedville, TN to serve the community through construction projects, backyard bible school, nursing home ministries, and ladies’ group ministries. Youth also serve with GRACE Ministries as shopping cart runners and children’s craft corner volunteers, and help pack food bags for local elementary school students who do not have enough to eat on weekends through You Feed Others (UFOs).

The mission statement for Centreville UMC Youth Missions is: “Youth Missions Loving God Through Loving Others Since service is essential to your faith, we encourage you, our youth, to participate and serve as Christ's witnesses in order to help our brothers and sisters in need. As hands and feet of the Lord, you can help share His great love throughout the community.” The leadership team includes David Raich, Kim Wu, and Phil Mohr. CUMC youth and adults participate in homeless ministries in DC through Teens Opposing Poverty, deliver dinners near Fairfax Circle as part of the FACETS Hot Meals program, serve with Appalachia Service Project in Central Appalachia, travel to Sneedville, TN for community service projects, support low-income immigrant families through GRACE Ministries, and pack food bags for local elementary school students through You Feed Others (UFOs). An emergency care form needs to be on file for all Youth Teens Opposing Poverty participants, and a day-of permission form, filled out and signed, is required for every Teens Opposing Poverty trip for those who already have a form on file.
