Blue Ridge Irish Music School offers music lessons, dance instruction, and summer camp, along with regular classes in Irish traditional music on various instruments. The program also includes three styles of dance, educational workshops, social events, ceilis, master classes, field trips, and options for study in Ireland.
The Blue Ridge Irish Music School is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to creating community through Irish music, song, and dance. Its mission is to create an inclusive, multigenerational community and foster creative expression through Celtic cultural traditions of music, dance, and song in Central Virginia. BRIMS provides scholarship assistance to any student in need and maintains an instrument library that students can access free of charge or for a minimal fee. BRIMS welcomes members regardless of culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, age, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and beliefs.
In April 2000, members of BRIMS traveled to Ireland as part of their commitment to teaching and to keeping the tradition connected to its roots. BRIMS is supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. BRIMS actively supports the local session scene, and its performing group and instructors perform extensively in the local community, both formally and informally, contributing to its cultural richness and diversity. BRIMS also offers a BRIMS Ireland Trip.
