Live Arts Education Classes

Live Arts Education Classes focus on theater activities such as acting, playwriting, script analysis, improvisation, musical theater, movement, and design. The program offers year-round, process-driven educational opportunities through studio classes, workshops, camps, and youth programs for adults, children, and teens. Participants can explore all listed aspects of theater and related activities in these classes and programs.

Live Arts Education Classes are part of Live Arts, whose mission statement is “Forging Theater & Community.” For more than three decades, Live Arts has dedicated itself to this mission in Charlottesville, Virginia. Live Arts is described as a national model for engaged community theater and is powered by hundreds of volunteers, with engagement in local communities that attracts participants and audiences from across Central Virginia. Live Arts stands with those raising their voices in support of justice and equality.

The leadership team connected to Live Arts includes Miller Susen (Interim Producing Artistic Director and Board President), Jeremy Duncan Pape (Technical Director), Daniel Kunkel (Interim Artistic Director, Education Director), Aldrian Argante (Production & Volunteer Manager), Annie Temmink (Associate Technical Director), Chloe Morgan (Office Manager), Chris Kelly (Data Manager), Andrew Bryce (Marketing Manager), Darryl Smith (Audience Experience Manager, emeritus), Karen Hayes (Grants Writer), and Ray Nedzel (Fringe Program Director). Board roles include Ckalib S. Nelson (Vice President/DEI Chair), Silas Byrne (Treasurer/Finance Chair), Willa Mulhollan Neale (Governance Chair), Lisa Bowers (Secretary), and Kate Leslie (Fundraising Committee Chair), with counsel provided by Larissa Sneathern of McGuireWoods LLP and CCA representatives Karen Pape and Dr. Nsofwa J. Chanda.
