Music Resource Center

Music Resource Center offers rehearsal rooms, practice space, and recording studio time where members can work on music. The program includes recording, podcasting, beat making, and performance opportunities, along with summer workshops and summer camps. Members can take unlimited lessons in voice, instrument, and dance, use a dance studio, and participate in mentorship, studio engineering training, and live sound training.

• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday from 2:30pm–7pm during the school year, with summer drop-in hours Monday–Thursday from 2:30pm–7pm
• Price: Annual fees as low as $1, with membership fees on a sliding scale based on family size and income and additional scholarships available case-by-case

Music Resource Center is a nonprofit after-school program that serves 300–400 members per year and operates as a drop-in space for 6th–12th graders. The program offers 30+ hours of one-on-one training and a paid internship in studio engineering and live sound through its MRC Certified offering. The organization is led by Executive Director Alice Fox.

According to its mission statement, Music Resource Center fosters the youth of Charlottesville through music and is guided by core values of creativity, access, and community, with a commitment to enhancing the lives of youth through musical engagement. It describes itself as a safe, diverse, and creative community where 6th–12th graders learn, grow, and make music together, and states that it is accessible to all. The organization is supported in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. Alice Fox, Executive Director, states, “We are here to inspire and empower each student to achieve their musical dreams and full potential.”
