Fairfax Ice Arena opened its doors on March 17, 1973, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. It is the first year-round indoor ice skating rink facility in Virginia and in the South, and it is the home ice rink of the Skating Club of Northern Virginia and the adult Fairfax Hockey League, both formed in 1975. Fairfax Ice Arena was founded by Eileen Weisiger, and her son, the late Edwin Berry Weisiger, spearheaded the Fairfax Hockey League about 40 years ago. The rink reports that it continues to have first-rate, world renowned coaches and competitive skaters.

Fairfax Ice Arena is a program partner of the Girl Scouts Nation's Capital and offers Girl Scouts Holiday Ice Skating, including a one-time free 20-minute beginner lesson for Girl Scouts with reservations for both the lesson and the Girl Scouts Holiday Skate. Themed Public Skate events include a DJ and refreshments and may include raffle prizes, photo areas, games, and more. Public skate admission and skate rental are purchased in person at the box office, and there is a Holiday Gift Special that includes group ice skating lessons plus skates of the participant’s own.
