Therapeutic Recreation Services states that it provides opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to develop the skills that enable them to participate in the recreation and leisure programs of their choice. The Sensory Room at the center offers one-on-one sessions, group sessions, and special themed programs that use lights, sounds, textures, touch pads, swings, and other interactive elements, and all Sensory Room programs and sessions are scheduled through the Inclusion Coordinator. The Sensory Room programs are led and/or supervised by a full-time Inclusion Coordinator who is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, and all Sensory Room appointments and inquiries are handled through the Jim Scott Community Center at 703-865-0520. Center staff provide programming and opportunities for youth to develop skills, explore creative thinking, and emphasize community building, and SACC staff work in partnership with families and collaborate with early childhood professionals, schools, and community partners to support child wellbeing. Therapeutic Recreation Services works in conjunction with regional services and alongside NCS Culture, Recreation, and Community Connections staff and the inclusion specialist to provide services and programs for individuals of all abilities.
