About
Tiny Dancers is a specialized dance program where children take classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Wiggletoes, and musical theater. The program teaches only young children and uses choreographed stories and fairy tales, costumes, and props as part of the dance experience. Students are encouraged to learn through creative self-expression, exploration of movement, and age-appropriate choreography as they progress through the different dance styles offered.
• Ages: 2–12 years old
Tiny Dancers is a family-owned studio that offers a unique program for dancers ages 2–12, including exclusive Wiggletoes classes for toddlers ages 2–3. The curriculum is designed to emphasize technical excellence while promoting agility, grace and coordination, and it is a literacy-based ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and musical theater program. For dancers ages 2–5, the curriculum uses choreographed stories and fairy tales as a teaching vehicle, with lesson plans reinforced as students dance adventures of Rapunzel, re-enact Sleeping Beauty, or become the prince or princess in Cinderella. As students mature, they move from fairy tales to a more intensive focus on technique, style, interpretation, and choreography, with an emphasis on positive self-esteem, technical excellence, and a love of the art of dance.
All classes are by reservation only, and walk-ins without prior registration are not accepted. Class sizes are limited to provide personalized instruction. Instructors are chosen for their dance skills as well as their ability and enthusiasm for working with young children, must have years of dance experience, and are thoroughly trained in the Tiny Dancers methodology. Tiny Dancers and Wiggletoes are registered service marks of Tiny Dancers LLC.
Tiny Dancers was started in 2001 by studio owner Donna Rathe and is celebrating its 25th season from 2001–2026. The program is committed to core values and the idea that the joy of dance lies in the creative expression and non-competitive experience that is the essence of the art. Through its specially designed program and staff, young dancers gain self-confidence, poise and a lifelong love of the art regardless of where their dance education takes them. Tiny Dancers serves students from nearby Maryland, Washington, DC and Northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Prince William, Montgomery and Prince Georges counties and many surrounding cities and towns. The program also launched a virtual dance program live streamed beginning in March 2020 to dancers in the Washington, DC area and throughout the country.
