About
Xpressions Dance Center offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, praise dance, and cheerleading. The program takes place in a custom designed facility with three dance rooms that each have full wall mirrors, professional sprung floors, and a double barre in every room. The lobby includes a waiting area, bathroom, reception desk, and a storefront with Xpressions swag such as water bottles, dance bags, and studio apparel, along with space for dancers to hang coats and store dance bags during class.

Xpressions Dance Center was founded by moms and notes that it offers lots of class options in many different genres of dance for dancers of all ages, with options for recreational classes or joining a competitive dance team. The studio notes that it is conveniently located with easy access to Staunton, Waynesboro, and other surrounding areas right off I-64, and that it has ample parking in a well lit parking lot. Season 12 enrollment begins May 7, and registration for Summer 2026 begins February 15th.
Owner and Business Director Amanda Sullivan graduated from James Madison University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management with a concentration in Human Resources, earned a Master of Arts in Special Education from James Madison University in 2012, and has over 20 years of experience in financial and accounting management. Instructor Kristina Winn has trained for over 20 years in local dance programs in ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, tap, musical theatre, and hip hop; gained teaching experience assisting in numerous dance classes during high school; studied dance and arts management at George Mason University; and in 2019 received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mary Baldwin University in Marketing and Communications with a minor in Film Theory focused on performing arts marketing and management. She has taught ballet, lyrical, and contemporary classes and competition choreography for the past 10 years, has worked as a backstage assistant for numerous local and college productions, and works as a curriculum specialist for Penny Prima designing and providing supplemental dance materials to studios around the country.
Instructor Caroline Kempfer-Ware has been dancing since age two with a main focus on ballet and training in modern, contemporary, jazz, and character dance; she grew up dancing in Bridgewater and attended summer intensives at The Rock School, The Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and The Joffrey Ballet School. She moved to New York City as a trainee at The Joffrey Ballet School, later moved to Indiana where she competed in the Youth American Grand Prix, and is working toward a degree in Early Childhood Education. Instructor Coretta Wyatt began dancing at age 7, grew up learning ballet, tap, and hip hop, developed a focus on praise dance and joined a church dance team where she also performed solo, and in high school joined cheerleading and became cheer captain.
Instructor Candice Beck started dance training in ballet, tap, and jazz at J’Mars Dance World under B.J. Harding and Mary K. Smith, where she became an assistant dance instructor in high school. She trained in classical ballet at Staunton Academy of Ballet and at several studios in Charlottesville, auditioned for and was accepted into the dance program at Virginia Intermont College, and was a member of The Virginia Intermont Performing Dance Company for four years. While earning her Business Administration degree from Virginia Intermont, she studied ballet, jazz, and modern under Constance Hardinge and other guest and resident artists, has danced in and choreographed for many local musical theater groups, teaches special education in Augusta County, and is studying for her Master’s Degree in Teaching. Instructor James Brown is a dance instructor with experience in a wide variety of social dances, has built a social media brand name (ANi) that caters to all ages and grew from a style called Jersey Club that he helped create and develop, and has 15 years of experience in choreography and creative directing for all ages and professional dance performances. He is a YouTuber, has taught across the East Coast including NYC, NJ, PA, Atlanta, and Miami, has toured with Chris Brown’s “Heartbreak On A Full Moon” and “Indigo” tours and Justin Bieber’s “Justice” Tour, and his highlights include appearances on America’s Best Dance Crew and a Michael Jackson Tribute to Joe Jackson.
Xpressions Dance Center states that it is committed to providing dancers of all ages an encouraging environment in which they can grow and excel in their dance education, and that it is dedicated to inspiring students to appreciate learning, living, and creating, with this inspiration building individual self-esteem and confidence and a team that has respect for each other and themselves. The studio describes itself as family focused and as a place of love, encouragement, support, and respect. Amanda Sullivan has participated in various capacities on several non-profit boards as part of her community volunteerism. The program notes that it has been in operation since at least 2015, as indicated by “@2015 by Xpressions Dance Center LLC.”
