School of Rock Short Pump offers music lessons through a performance-based music education model that includes both one-on-one private lessons and group band practices. Students can take part in specific programs such as Rock 101, the Performance Program, the Rookies program, the Little Wing program, the Songwriting program, and the Adult Program, and students in these programs perform at real local music venues in front of live audiences. The school uses the patented School of Rock Method™ music education system.

School of Rock was founded as a single school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1998 and has since grown under a leadership team that includes Stacey Ryan (President), Sam Dresser (Chief Innovation Officer), Demi Iskandar (Head of Marketing), Eric Schmidt (Vice President of Information Technology), and Jim Love (Vice President of Domestic Franchise Operations). Within its specific programs, Rock 101 and the Performance Program each include one weekly private lesson and one weekly group rehearsal. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson and use simplified rock instruments, while Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson and use hand percussion and other tools to learn rhythm patterns and music syntax. Songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson and one weekly group lesson, and the Songwriting program culminates with either a live showcase at a local music venue or a remote recording to produce a demo for online students.

School of Rock Short Pump serves kids and adults across Glen Allen and surrounding areas such as Richmond, Hanover, and Chesterfield, and it is an after-school destination for students in Henrico County Public Schools, including Twin Hickory Elementary and Rivers Edge Elementary. Student bands from this school perform at local venues like The Park RVA and at community-based events including the Carmax Marathon. An independent study of School of Rock programs reported that after joining, 96.2% of parents saw a boost in their child’s self-confidence and 95.9% reported improved teamwork skills, based on a self-reported survey of 1,443 parents of students under age 18 conducted from April 26 to May 7, 2025, for informational purposes only.
