Summer@Potomac offers activities such as Robotics, Debate, Nature Science, Service Learning, Tinkering, Musical Theatre camp, Beekeeping, Cooking, Woodworking, SPARK’s My First Lemonade Stand, Soccer, Football, Hiking, Swimming, and Baseball. Campers can also join Nature Science Camps, Tinkering Camp, Service Learning Camp, and the Counselor Apprentice (CA) program. Musical Theatre camp is described as a three-week camp.
• Ages: 5–15 years old
• Schedule: Campers can attend Potomac Plus AM as early as 8:00 am and Potomac Plus PM until 5:00 pm.
Campers are guided by experienced Head Counselors, many of whom are teachers with more than a decade of classroom expertise, supported by college and high school Assistant Counselors, many of whom are Summer@Potomac alumni. The leadership team includes Whitney Ennis, Director of Summer Programs, and Grace Burgett, Auxiliary Programs Coordinator. Summer@Potomac builds on The Potomac School mission, which emphasizes intellectual development, love of learning, strength of character, and the values of courage, integrity, humility, perseverance, and respect, and the program states a commitment to respecting and celebrating diversity.
The Counselor Apprentice program focuses on developing creativity, self-confidence, and leadership skills. Community involvement activities have included Counselor Apprentices visiting Women Giving Back to sort clothing donations for women and children in need, and Service Learning Camp activities such as making trail mix bags, visiting a local food pantry, and learning about community gardens. Campers may have field trips to locations such as the National Museum of Natural History and the U.S. Botanic Garden, and guests have included Mad Science of Washington and professional percussionist and storyteller Kofi Dennis. Summer@Potomac notes that programs are designed to be engaging and interactive so campers learn while having fun.
Summer@Potomac offers complimentary bus transportation for all campers, with more than 40 bus stops located throughout the DMV area. Families can add options such as Potomac Plus AM and PM extended day, after-camp swim lessons, a lunch program, and a virtual camp store with Summer@Potomac gear.
Parent feedback includes comments that the diversity of programs and campus facilities are “fantastic,” that the camp has “quality activities” and “solid organization,” and that there are “so many great options and activities for any interest area,” with one parent noting they “love the pool an campus.”
