Virginia Living Museum Youth & Family Programs include monthly Homeschool Days with discounted self-guided admission, special educational opportunities, and classroom programs. Families can take part in Winter Nature Nights with twinkling lights, festive activities, holiday fun, seasonal treats, live entertainment, special guests, and sparkling displays. The program also offers a Family Camp-In: Mystery at the Museum overnight adventure that uses forensic science and scientific testing to solve a museum mystery and includes sleeping beside indoor exhibits, along with a variety of animal feedings, behind-the-scenes tours, and WILD Animal ENCOUNTERS with ambassador animals.
• Schedule: Open daily 9am–5pm; animal feedings offered daily and on weekends at set times
• Price: Tickets: Adults from $21.95, Children $16.95; Military, Senior, and AAA Member discount available; Children 2 and under are free; Memberships starting at $85; a Family Membership pays for itself in just two visits.
Specific activities include a Birds of Prey Tour with a behind-the-scenes encounter and a look at the daily care, training, and conservation of resident birds of prey. Behind the Scenes: A Deer Encounter features the deer Orion and Artemis, where participants offer browse to the deer and watch them up close. Daily animal feedings include Deer at 11:00am and Otter at 12:30pm, with Fish Enrichment on Saturdays at 10:30am, Trout on Sundays at 10:30am, and Turtles on Sundays at 12:00pm. WILD Animal ENCOUNTERS provide up-close ambassador animal experiences focused on animal adaptations, habitats, care, and ecosystem roles. Customized behind-the-scenes tours of animals and exhibits are available for families, couples, or small groups not to exceed nine people. Volunteering is available for those who want to play a part in enriching the lives of animals and supporting the museum.
The program includes award winning education programs, 11 conservation programs, and the Green Teens conservation initiative. The newest exhibit, Wild Explorations, is located in the Changing Exhibit Gallery, and the museum also features a planetarium. Volunteers give their time and talents to support the mission to protect what’s precious, and the museum is a non-profit organization supported by people who donate to encourage and build a better community.
