NOVA of Virginia Aquatics was established in 1987 as a non-profit organization and began as a small non-profit organization to address the need for a structured, year-round swimming program. Geoff Brown founded the club and served as Head Coach through 2020. NOVA’s mission is to ensure access to everyone in the community, regardless of socioeconomic, mental, or physical challenges, and it prioritizes safety, inclusion, and excellence so that all individuals can participate and benefit from its programs. NOVA strives to develop excellence in swimmers of all ages and abilities by challenging and motivating them to reach their full potential in swimming and in life.
NOVA partners with Henrico County Public Schools to provide swim instruction to 1,600 second grade students annually through the county’s Learn2Swim program and has over 2,300 swimmers in outreach programming. Community partners include the Central VA Autism Society, Sportable Adaptive Sports, the Special Olympics, the Henrico Police Athletic League, Steward School’s Leap Program, Reel Em In, Swim Across America, and Henrico Fire and Rescue. NOVA is described as a leader in promoting water safety, healthy lifestyles, and the lifelong sport of swimming, and its competitive youth swim team of about 800 swimmers is rated the #1 club by Virginia Swimming and consistently ranks as a Top-Ten organization by USA Swimming. NOVA has an impressive record of student athletes at the local, national, and global levels, including swimmers who have competed at numerous Olympic Trials and represented the United States in Junior National and world swimming events.
