Aerial Spirit was founded by Brande Lee Morrow, who created Aerial Spirit to break the mold. Brande has been training and performing circus and aerial arts since 2009 and has been teaching aerial arts since 2012. She is certified in group fitness through the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), is a registered Vinyasa Yoga instructor (RYT-200), and is certified in both prenatal and post-natal yoga. She also holds certifications in Total Barre Fitness, Zumba, TRX, Pilates Suspension Method, and is comprehensively certified in Pilates through Dawn Pilates Studio under Director of Education Everlea Bryant, NCPT, CPT. Brande participated in Aerial Arts America's 2nd Annual West Coast Aerial Arts Festival in November 2014, where she placed 1st in her tissu/silk professional category and 1st overall, and she was selected and competed as a finalist in the silks category for the inaugural U.S. Aerial Championships in New York City in February 2015.
According to the program’s mission, Aerial Spirit focuses on fun and wants students to enjoy the spirit of the art form, with lessons that can be both relaxed and intense as students work toward personal goals. Brande encourages self-expression in addition to learned technique, with a set standard of progressions at each level and an emphasis on variations. The mission states that students feel they have choice and autonomy in what they are learning and how they express the moves being taught. It also states that above all, safety is the top priority in her classes and so is the art of “play.” The program notes that Brande’s award-winning background in aerial silks, lyra, hammock, pole, and hoop dance shapes how each lesson is structured. Aerial Spirit partners with studios in multiple locations around South Hampton Roads.
