The Headfirst Companies operate Baseball and Softball Honor Roll Camps and Professional Camps in partnership with four Major League Baseball teams, one Major League Soccer team, and one National Football League team.
Headfirst Summer Camps is part of The Headfirst Companies, founded by Brendan Sullivan after he returned to Washington, DC in the fall of 1996 following the first of his five professional baseball seasons, beginning with a single baseball lesson at St. Albans School. The organization states that its mission, from the first pitch and continuing today, is to inspire the personal best in high potential kids. Headfirst Summer Camps reports having been a trusted choice for families across Washington, DC, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia for 30 years and notes a team of twenty-five full-time and 700 seasonal members. The program states that it lives to elevate its camps as a platform to teach kids about life and open up possibilities for their future, and that its programming and structure are intended to help kids across the country embrace their own passions and become their best selves through the power of play.
Parent testimonials describe great counselors, flexibility to a child’s needs, and a carpool line for before and after care, as well as flexibility to change camp topics after registration, with one parent noting that a child grew in skills in two weeks. Other parents describe the camp and counselors as phenomenal, mention that one child learned the backstroke in less than one week, and say the counselors are caring, kind, and very well organized. Additional feedback notes that kids have loved the camp, that daily swimming is a plus, that photo updates are appreciated, and that campers have been grouped with their friends. One parent reports that a camper who previously did not like going to summer camp asked to return after a week at Headfirst, and that communication and photos help them stay up to date on the camper’s day.
