Edgemoor Art Studio, Inc. was founded in 2009 by a veteran teacher. The school-year art program consists of thirty-eight weeks of educational and fun art classes for children and teens. The studio welcomes children and teens ages three to adult, with age-appropriate, structured classes for preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle-school, and high school students. The mission of the program states that the role of the teacher is to facilitate and interact with the child while he or she is learning through creating, with an emphasis on the process rather than a product, and without relying on copying, tracing, or filling in outlines to produce predictable results.
Edgemoor Art Studio, Inc. is a twice winner of the Kathleen K. Seefeldt Award for Arts Excellence for “outstanding arts organization” and “outstanding arts education,” and has been voted InsideNova’s Best of Prince William County “Best Art Studio/Gallery 2023” and “Best Art Studio in PWC 2023.” The Art Rocks! camps program began in 2009, opens for registration each year at the end of February, and offers sibling discounts for Art Rocks! Summer Camps. At Art Rocks! camps, campers explore multiple mediums, learn many art processes, discover new techniques, invent some of their own, and spend time painting, drawing, and sculpting. The studio states that students learn in a safe, non-competitive environment and that new students are welcomed anytime during the year and anytime during the school year.
The program offers seasonal workshops, community art programs, and field trip options throughout the school year, and states that one of its goals is to empower children and youths to make a difference in their community and in the world. Edgemoor has been affectionately named the “Gem of Lake Ridge” by area parents. Testimonials from parents and students describe positive experiences with camps, open studio days, birthday parties, and long-term class participation, including comments about learning new techniques, feeling comfortable with adult-to-child ratios, and returning for more open studio sessions.
