About

SAMBICA Camps offers organized activities that include playing in the lake, games on the field, ropes activities on a ropes course, time at the waterfront, and use of a high dive. The program also offers a fishing camp as one of its options.

• Schedule: Sample day runs from 8:00AM drop-off to 4:45PM pick-up, with rally, cabin time, two activity blocks, lunch, and waterfront free time in the afternoon.

SAMBICA Camps offers 10 weeks of summer camps and also hosts retreats, camps, and events throughout the school year. Campers are placed in cabin groupings of around ten kids in their age range. Drop-off and pick-up occur at the SAMBICA Field on Upper Camp every morning and afternoon. Campers are asked to bring a backpack, Bible, water bottle, towel, one-piece swimsuit, sunscreen, and closed-toed shoes for ropes activities, and to leave electronics like phones and smart watches at home.

All staff are First Aid and CPR certified and go through safety training and background checks, with extensive application, interview, and background check processes for all employees. Team members are college-aged adults from a variety of universities. SAMBICA has been on mission since 1919 and states a mission of being “A Light on the Lake,” aiming to reflect the light of Jesus to others. Its vision is to inspire youth to a relationship with Jesus Christ, and the program states that it wants every camper to have the opportunity to know how much God loves them. The camp shares the Gospel while “speaking a kid’s language: play,” with campers hearing a camp speaker daily share from the Bible and taking part in a daily cabin discussion with their counselor about what it means to follow Jesus.

Parent and participant comments include a camper saying, “I love coming to camp and getting to play games with my friends.” A parent states that “creating a safe, fun, and loving environment is the best thing a mom can ask for.” A summer team member describes “being able to share the Gospel with kids while having fun at the Waterfront” and says this made the job feel like doing what he loves.
