About
SAMBICA Camps offers activities that include playing in the lake, games on the field, organized activities, fun at the waterfront, ropes activities on a ropes course, and using a high dive. The program also includes a fishing camp as one of the options for campers.
• Schedule: Summer camps run across 10 weeks, with a sample day including 8:00AM drop-off, a 9:00AM rally, cabin time and two morning activities, lunch at 12:30PM, waterfront free time in the afternoon, and 4:45PM pick-up.
SAMBICA Camps is a non-denominational Christian camp and retreat program that has been on mission since 1919. Its stated mission is “A Light on the Lake ... SAMBICA aims to reflect the light of Jesus to others by treating everyone who walks on camp like He would. We exist to be the light of Christ in our unique setting and to reveal His love in all we do.” The program’s vision is “Inspiring Youth to a Relationship with Jesus Christ,” and it shares the Gospel while “speaking a kid's language: play.”
Day campers are placed in cabin groupings of around ten kids in their age range, and they build connections with their counselor and cabin-mates. The team members are college-aged adults from a variety of universities who are described as responsible, faithful leaders. All staff are First Aid/CPR certified and go through safety training and background checks, with extensive application, interview, and background check processes for all employees.
Families are asked to pack a backpack with a Bible, water bottle, towel, swimsuit (one-pieces only), sunscreen, and closed-toed shoes for ropes activities, and to leave electronics like phones and smart watches at home. One camper, Grant, says, “I love coming to camp and getting to play games with my friends.” A parent, Tawyna, says, “As a parent I get great joy when we drop our camper off for a summer of memories. Creating a safe, fun, and loving environment is the best thing a mom can ask for!” A summer team member, David, says, “Being able to share the Gospel with kids while having fun at the Waterfront made my job feel nothing like a 'job', but doing what I love.”
