Camas-Washougal Parent Co-op Preschool has operated since 1940. Its mission is to provide a positive introductory learning experience for 2, 3, and 4 year old children to prepare for their elementary education through a cooperative effort between teachers, students, and families. The program is organized as a parent co-op with defined executive board roles, including President Dani Shaver, Vice President Kat Williams, Registrar Christine Mallard, Secretary Haylee Rimmer, Treasurer Janelle Slyter, Fundraising Officer Ashley Hegewald, Supplies Officer Jessie Himsl, Facilities Officer Katie Vanderpool, and Community Outreach Officer Amanda Goodwin. The Community Outreach Officer leads efforts to engage with the community and partner with local organizations to grow awareness of the school within the rapidly growing population. A testimonial shared by the program is the quote from Fred Rogers: “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning, but for children play is serious learning, PLAY IS REALLY THE WORK OF CHILDHOOD.”
