About
Issaquah Baseball Club is a select baseball program where players take part in select baseball, tournament play, and scrimmages. The program is for kids who play in Issaquah Little League and follows a schedule that is 100 percent complementary to the Issaquah Little League schedule. All kids in Issaquah Baseball Club are required to play in the Issaquah Little League program, and children must live within the Issaquah School District boundary to participate.
• Ages: 8–12 years old
• Schedule: The Issaquah Baseball Club season is 100 percent complementary to the Issaquah Little League schedule.
Issaquah Baseball Club’s mission is to provide Issaquah’s most talented 8- to 12-year-old baseball players opportunities for higher-level skill development, competition and commitment to the game, create a well-rounded baseball player, develop physical, mental and emotional skills and teach fundamental game strategies, prepare kids to play competitive baseball after age 12, and provide the Issaquah community an experience that promotes sportsmanship, instruction, teamwork, and respect for and enjoyment of the game of baseball. The club is the only local select baseball organization that builds its schedule to complement Issaquah Little League and allows for a solid commitment to both a Little League team and a select team with no conflicts. Issaquah Baseball Club is described as ideal for the multi-sport athlete, with a schedule that is not so demanding that other activities have to be cut, and most boys involved play at least one other sport, including basketball, hockey, and football. All age groups participate in one to two tournaments per year that require hotel stays, with past tournament destinations including Yakima, Wenatchee, and Vancouver, Washington, and at the 12U level the experience culminates in one trip to play in a tournament in Arizona. Forms necessary for play include a concussion form and a code of conduct.
The Issaquah Baseball Club leadership team includes President Ken Hunziker; VP/Secretary Sicily Graham; Treasurer Brooke Sullivan; Equipment & Uniforms lead Matt Brown; Training lead Alex Justus; Communication lead Koji Pupo; Tournaments lead Ryan Carter; and At Large members Jared Carvalho, Bob Niemann, Kyle Buckner, Michael Gray, and Arik Van Zandt. The club works with Issaquah Little League to maintain a symbiotic relationship, and all of their kids are required to play in the Issaquah Little League program.
Testimonials describe Issaquah Baseball Club as Little League-friendly and note its relationship with Issaquah Little League as helping protect kids’ arm health while allowing them to play Little League and compete at a higher level at non-conflicting times. One parent and coach of three IBC players over 13 total seasons highlights the club’s insistence that players are or become good teammates and describes camaraderie in the dugout as “the IBC way.” Another parent states that when their family moved to Issaquah, their boys wanted a more competitive level of baseball, and that the club has been a good fit for developing their kids’ knowledge and skill for the game and building their confidence, as well as being part of a community where they have made life-long friendships. A varsity baseball coach at Issaquah High School notes that in recent years the first wave of IBC players have made and contributed to the Issaquah High School varsity baseball team and calls Issaquah Baseball Club a great organization for the development of future Issaquah High School baseball players, expressing pride in supporting the club’s efforts to work with Issaquah Little League for the betterment of young baseball players.
