About
Issaquah Baseball Club offers select baseball that includes tournaments and scrimmages. Players take part in games and events that are organized around a select baseball schedule.
• Ages: 8–12 years old
• Schedule: The Issaquah Baseball Club season is 100 percent complementary to the Issaquah Little League schedule.
Issaquah Baseball Club states that its mission is to provide Issaquah’s most talented 8- to 12-year-old baseball players opportunities for higher-level skill development, competition and commitment to the game, to create a well-rounded baseball player, to develop physical, mental and emotional skills and teach fundamental game strategies, to prepare players to play competitive baseball after age 12, and to provide an experience that promotes sportsmanship, instruction, teamwork, and respect for and enjoyment of the game of baseball. The club is the only local select baseball organization that builds its schedule to complement Issaquah Little League, and all kids in the program are required to play in Issaquah Little League. Children playing in Issaquah Baseball Club must live within the Issaquah School District boundary, and the club works with Issaquah Little League to maintain a symbiotic relationship.
The program is for kids ages 8–12 who play in Issaquah Little League. It allows for a solid commitment to both a Little League team and to a select team with no conflicts. It is described as ideal for the multi-sport athlete because the schedule is not so demanding that other activities have to be cut, and most boys involved in Issaquah Baseball Club play at least one other sport, including basketball, hockey and football. All age groups participate in one to two tournaments per year that require hotel stays, with trips relatively close by, and past tournament destinations have included Yakima, Wenatchee and Vancouver, Washington. At the 12U level, the experience culminates in one trip to play in a tournament in Arizona. Forms necessary for play include a concussion form and a code of conduct.
The Issaquah Baseball Club leadership team includes President Ken Hunziker; VP/Secretary Sicily Graham; Treasurer Brooke Sullivan; Equipment & Uniforms lead Matt Brown; Training lead Alex Justus; Communication lead Koji Pupo; Tournaments lead Ryan Carter; and At Large members Jared Carvalho, Bob Niemann, Kyle Buckner, Michael Gray, and Arik Van Zandt.
One founding board member, Kyle Buckner, states that Issaquah Baseball Club is Little League-friendly and works with Issaquah Little League to maintain a symbiotic relationship that helps protect kids’ arm health and allows kids to play Little League while also competing at a higher level at non-conflicting times. Parent and coach James Hawk describes that the club emphasizes that players are, or become, good teammates and that an Issaquah Baseball Club player experiences camaraderie, dedication, accountability, and striving to be a good teammate. Parent Alisa Lawrence shares that the club has developed her kids’ knowledge and skill for the game and built their confidence, and that her family has made life-long friendships through the club. Issaquah High School varsity baseball coach Rob Reese notes that the first wave of Issaquah Baseball Club players have made and contributed to the Issaquah High School varsity baseball team and describes the organization as supporting the development of future Issaquah High School baseball players while working with Issaquah Little League for the betterment of young baseball players.
