• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Beginner, intermediate, and advanced class options multiple days per week; beginning classes are 45 minutes in length
Washington Fencing Academy has been serving Seattle’s Eastside for over 20 years. Advanced Saber classes are taught by Mark Lundborg and Ethan Miller. The academy states that fencing is a fun, active sport that builds coordination, focus, and confidence, and that it provides a welcoming, beginner-friendly place to learn and thrive. Equipment is included in Bronze, Silver, and Gold Membership packages for beginner level students, while intermediate and advanced students are required to own their own equipment, and students attending Open Fencing are required to have their own training equipment, including lame, cords, electric mask, and electric glove. Open Fencing is included in monthly membership once a student reaches the intermediate level, and there is also a Regional Team program for competitive students. Many local school districts allow students to get PE credit for sports activities outside of school, and the academy notes the option to explore fencing for PE credit with local school districts.
Parent and participant comments include: “Took the 11 and 9 year old after school for a trial and first lesson. Everyone’s kindness & care permeate the entire business.” (Nada A.), “Our kids love the classes and the memberships are fair and easy to utilize.” (Mark S.), and “Great club, great folks” (Evgeny Y).
