About

USA Patriots Kids Camp is a youth program where participants take part in slow pitch softball and softball, learn adaptive skills training, and experience activities connected to the USA Patriots team such as Kids Camp sessions and Leadership/Coaching. The program includes sharing adaptive sport techniques and focuses on teaching adaptive techniques to children who may have the same limitations as the veteran coaches. The organization also connects camp activities with broader events such as a pickleball tournament, a concert by country artist Ben Allen, and a banquet and auction.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Spring Training – Adaptive Skills Training is described as a week-long opportunity to bring the entire roster together for a refresher on skills and adaptive techniques.

The USA Patriots Kids Camp is hosted by the USA Patriots, formerly known as the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, which has been a registered nonprofit since 2011 and was established in 2011. Kids Camp is a program hosted outside the veteran population and focuses specifically on children with limb loss, with preference for children of veterans while remaining open to any child in the amputee community. This camp is funded by the team, and veterans use their military leadership skills to become coaches for young children, serving in a leadership capacity through the camp. The organization uses the sport of slow pitch softball to provide athletic and youth programming initiatives that teach the abilities of adaptive sport by veterans, and it also includes activities such as upgrading prosthetics to be more adaptive for an athletic setting.

The mission of the USA Patriots is to bring athletic and like-minded veteran amputees together to promote the benefits of inclusive sport and therapeutic recreational activities, to inspire and motivate communities of people, to support children with physical challenges, and to operate as a vehicle that offers national opportunities for continued service to the country. The organization describes Kids Camp 2026 as taking place July 13–19, 2026, and identifies it as USA Patriots Kids Camp in Kent, WA. The USA Patriots leadership team includes Executive Director Rich Cress, President Josh Wege, and Chairman of the Board Jack Jones.

Softball professionals are on site at USA Patriots programs, along with a physical therapist who works specifically with the amputee population. The organization has also begun to incorporate services by individuals who are professionals with the DAV and the VA to address athletes’ medical needs. The USA Patriots educate schools, corporate offices, and new amputees in VAs and hospitals across the country about the abilities of an amputee, and during their travels they work with communities on educating them on the abilities and needs of wounded veterans with traumatic loss. The organization notes that it started with one week of spring training for veterans who were just learning to walk at Walter Reed hospital and that it has distinguished itself as a stand-alone nonprofit, separate from Wounded Warrior Project or other WW organizations due to the name association.
