AL Studio runs spring, summer, winter, and mid-winter camps every year, with summer camps offered as whole-week packages and spring, winter, and mid-winter camps offering daily pass options. The camp limits enrollment to 14 full-day seats per day, includes all art supplies, materials, and aprons, and asks full-day campers to bring two snacks, lunch, a water bottle, and to wear socks and walking shoes, while half-day campers bring snacks. The schedule provides 2 to 4 project choices prepared in advance at different levels, with breaks about every hour for younger campers and every 1.5 hours for older campers, and different activities by age group. It is free to switch camp days for the first transfer within the same school break.
AL Studio is founded and run by local artists since 2011. Instructors come from Seattle, other western states, and China, and all have an art major degree and art education experience. Students learn techniques used by classical artists, including how to use pastels, watercolors, oils, and pencils, and each class is created with a personalized teaching plan so that everyone can work on different art, with siblings able to attend the same class. Guest instructors from different cultural backgrounds are invited to host art workshops, and AL Studio also offers semi-private art classes, camps, art parties, online classes, and art enrichment at local schools.
The program’s mission states that the goal is for participants to relax, feel inspired, explore different art topics, learn techniques, and express themselves in a caring, encouraging creative art sanctuary. AL Studio reports being recommended by a Seattle-area children’s magazine as one of the top ten local art studios. The studio has sponsored local school auction events for years. Parent feedback includes comments about campers creating many projects, learning techniques, gaining confidence in artistic abilities, and experiencing kind and professional staff who balance flexibility with instruction in techniques and fundamentals.
