About
Camp Blue Spruce Overnight Camp offers activities such as hiking, canoeing, and swimming. The camp is dedicated to kids with life-threatening food allergies and other related conditions and is free of the foods that cause more than 90% of allergic reactions, including dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, gluten, and sesame. The food at Camp Blue Spruce is top-9 allergen-free, and the camp brings its own kitchen equipment, including cutting boards, pots and pans, knives, and mixers.
• Ages: 9–17 years old
• Schedule: August 13–18, 2026
• Price: Camp Deposit $150; Tuition for Campers (4th-12th grade): $1,150; Sibling Discount – $50 – Sibling discounts are available to the second camper from the same family
Camp Blue Spruce’s vision is that all children and families with food allergies have a sense of belonging, trust and community, and it provides opportunities for youth and teens living with food allergies and other related conditions to come together as a community. Camp Blue Spruce is the only week-long overnight camp in the country dedicated to kids with life-threatening food allergies and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. Before camp begins, a dedicated crew of allergy-aware people implements a multi-pronged cleaning protocol and scrubs and sanitizes the kitchen, dining facilities and all the common areas at camp, including the art room, cabins, and gym and gym equipment. Camp Blue Spruce strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where all participants, staff, and families are valued and stands for no discrimination, and it also provides a variety of online programming throughout the year.
The programs at Camp Blue Spruce are organized by a team that includes camp professionals, medical advisors, parents of children with food allergies, event organizers, cooks and nutritionists, financial and fundraising experts, and communications professionals. Some of Oregon’s leading allergy doctors provide medical advice for Camp Blue Spruce. Camp Blue Spruce and the DeMerell Campership Fund offer financial assistance to families who want to attend camp but cannot afford the full tuition.
One camper described the experience by saying, “I feel like I’ve been trapped in a cage and finally let out. It’s freedom!” A camper’s mom in 2018 shared that her son, a Camp Blue Spruce camper, delivered a speech at a new school about the importance of awareness for severe allergies and that camp gave him a sense of community that helps him every day.
