About

Beacon Food Forest Kids Summer Camp is part of the Beacon Food Forest’s Kids Summer Camp and Young Person’s Garden activities. The program is connected to hands-on work such as planting, watering, harvesting the Food Bank Donation plot, pathway maintenance, art projects and beautification efforts, and P-Patch community gardening.

• Ages: 5–11 years old
• Schedule: Activities take place alongside events such as Third Saturday Work Parties from 10am–2pm and the Annual June Bloom Open House on Saturday, June 6th from 11am–3pm.
• Price: We pay rent for part of the site, in order to be allowed to charge for classes and pay our instructors.

Beacon Food Forest Kids Summer Camp is part of a volunteer-led, grassroots organization that includes a Young Person’s Garden for kids and youth and a Food Bank Plot that has been expanded to three times its previous size. The broader program has shifted all classes to fully free community education and is managed by the Food Forest Collective, a tax-exempt organization, with support from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods P-Patch Community Gardening Program. The organization’s mission is to cultivate a community dedicated to building equitable food systems for all people and stewarding the environment for the benefit of all species. One volunteer described the community as very peaceful and supportive, with people there for each other.
