About
Rainy Day Dinner Club focuses on cooking and baking, with students making dinner for their family in each class. Participants learn and practice basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, proper knife skills, and following recipes while using fresh, canned, and frozen ingredients in each meal. Classes include creating nutritious, oven-ready entrées that serve 4 to 6 people, packaged in oven-ready cookware with baking instructions, and the menu changes each session with options for vegetarian meals upon request at registration and nut free classes if needed.
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm
Rainy Day Dinner Club offers after school and weekend cooking and baking classes, as well as Summer, Winter, Mid-Winter, Spring, and other school year camps. The program also offers a Dinner Club enrichment program at schools and three-hour cooking and baking birthday parties. Classes are inter-disciplinary and hands-on, using food, cooking, and nutrition to learn about geography, math, science, and culture, and they include discussion of the science behind different ingredients, elements of scratch cooking, and the role of herbs, spices, and vegetables in flavoring foods. The program emphasizes creating delicious dishes that focus on local ingredients, scratch cooking, and natural preservatives, and it highlights building culture around family meals and developing enthusiasm for cooking.
Rainy Day Dinner Club states, “Celebrating 25,000 family meals & counting!” The mission of the program is: “We use the perspective of food, cooking, and nutrition to learn about geography, math, science, and culture, while helping kids develop a life-long love of fresh ingredients.” The owner listed for the program is Samantha Smith. Testimonials include a parent who said, “This was the best after school class ever. My son enjoyed learning cooking skills, and I enjoyed not having to think about what to make for dinner that night. Thank you!” and a 3rd grade student who said, “They help me to prepare delicious meals! I enjoy cooking now, and my family likes my food!” Another parent shared, “Wednesday Dinner Club nights are something I look forward to every week!”
