POSA has a history of fifty-plus years. The Portland Orff Schulwerk Association serves music educators in Oregon and Southwest Washington and is a chapter of AOSA, the American Orff Schulwerk Association. Its stated mission is to promote and support the teaching and enjoyment of music for the whole individual. POSA states that membership includes reduced admission to workshops, use of its instrumentarium, and participation in spreading the word about Orff Schulwerk in the Pacific Northwest. Portland Orff is committed to grow an inclusive and diverse membership.
The program features staff such as Dr. Paul Cribari, a Colorado-based music educator with over 20 years of experience teaching preschool through high school students who holds degrees in piano, vocal music education, Orff Schulwerk, and music education and has taught at multiple universities and national conferences across the U.S. Dr. Rick Layton teaches at the University of Maryland and the Key School in Annapolis, holds advanced degrees in music theory, is a certified Orff Schulwerk educator and international clinician, and has teaching experience in Austria, Australia, Canada, and more. Tiffany Unarce Barry is a vocalist, violinist, music educator, author, and Orff presenter based in Northern California who teaches PreK–8 music at Casa di Mir Montessori, serves as an adjunct lecturer at San José State University where she earned her BA and MA in Music Education, is Orff-certified, is a Level I Teacher Educator, and is a two-time “Teacher of the Year” in the Cambrian School District. Jeaneau Julian is an educator in Washington with a B.A. in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Oklahoma and an M.A. in TESOL from Arkansas Tech University, is certified in Orff Schulwerk, and serves as Vice-President of the American Center for Elemental Music and Movement (ACEMM).
The Portland Orff Schulwerk Association serves music educators in Oregon and Southwest Washington and is a chapter of AOSA, the American Orff Schulwerk Association. The 2026 Portland Orff course is hosted by Evergreen Public Schools at Cascade Middle School, and Cascade Middle School is part of Evergreen Public Schools. POSA partners with the Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton for summer 2026, and the Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton nightly rate includes hot breakfast, a free shuttle up to 5 miles including to and from PDX airport, and a pool and fitness center. Room sharing with other participants can be arranged after a housing interest form is sent out following registration. The 4th Annual KodOrff Day at PSU is free, and Chapter Share events are free. Members of Southern Washington & Oregon Kodaly Educators and Portland Orff-Schulwerk Association come together for a day of collaboration and community.
