Sunset Playhouse School for the Arts is part of Sunset Playhouse, which includes a Studio Theatre, rehearsal hall, dressing rooms, a catering kitchen, a lobby, a scene shop, a furniture and prop storage room, a business office, and a box office. The School for the Arts is connected to a theater that produces eight Furlan Auditorium productions per season, the Musical MainStage Concert Series, the SideNotes Cabaret Series, and a three-show children’s series called bug in a rug.
• Schedule: Business office hours are Monday–Friday from 12–5 PM, and box office hours are Tuesday–Friday from 1–5 PM, with ticket sales also available starting 1 hour before show times for that performance only.
Sunset Playhouse was incorporated in 1954, and its newly constructed building opened in March of 1960. The organization has been educating, entertaining, and inspiring children and adults since 1960. Over the past 60 years, Sunset has had leadership from Ian Dobbie, Alan Furlan, Michael Spicer, Thomas Somerville, Michael Duncan, Mark Salentine, Jonathan West, Diana Alioto, and current Artistic Director Nancy Visintainer-Armstrong. Sunset’s staff includes an Artistic Director, an Education Director, a Technical Director, a Business Manager/Volunteer Coordinator, an Administrative Assistant, a Box Office Manager, Box Office Associates, and Theater Technicians. Sunset Playhouse is a not-for-profit community theater organization and was the first theater in Wisconsin to be built entirely by a community theater group. A building fund drive was launched with support from the metropolitan Milwaukee area. The Playhouse has received 1,402,050 hours of service from 36,850 volunteers and is supported by a large pool of volunteers. Sunset is governed by a Board of Directors elected by its membership.
