The organization states the mission, “We strengthen lives and secure futures – with your help!” and was created by the community, for the community. It serves people ages 3 to 103 through programs for children and youth, older adult activities and meals, a food pantry, a fitness center, a community newspaper called Eastside News, event spaces, and more.
Friends and families, businesses and organizations, and people from throughout the Greater Madison area gather in its community rooms for celebrations, meetings, and classes. Goodman Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and an equal opportunity provider, and it is a proud partner with the United Way of Dane County. It is partially funded by the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Program, the City of Madison, Dane County, and the Irwin A & Robert D Goodman Foundation. Friends of Starkweather Creek are measuring PFAS in Starkweather Creek, the Yahara Chain, and other Dane County locations in 2024 in connection with the center’s community involvement. The leadership team includes Chris Talton as President.
