About

Special Olympics Wisconsin Sports Programs offers year-round sports training for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The program includes athletic competition in 19 Olympic-type sports and also includes athletic, health and leadership programming.

Special Olympics Wisconsin Sports Programs states that, through athletic, health and leadership programming, it is empowering people with intellectual disabilities to create a more welcoming and inclusive Wisconsin. The program provides Athlete Leadership training so athletes can serve in meaningful leadership roles and participate as partners in all aspects of Special Olympics Wisconsin. Class A Volunteers serve as coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers and local program managers. The program describes its community involvement as including athletes, volunteers, families, sponsors, coaches and the general public who are willing to open their minds and hearts and provide new opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. One athlete, Annie, shares, “My most favorite thing is all the Special Olympics Wisconsin coaches and all the people too…and everyone’s smiling faces!”
