Summer Art Camp
Walker's Point Center for the Arts, 839 S 5th St, Milwaukee, WI 53204
About
Summer Art Camp includes hands-on projects such as Paper Lanterns, Brave Cardboard Brigade, Mask Making, and Stop Motion Magic. Participants create 3-D works of art inspired by creatures big and small during Colorful Creatures I and II 3-D Painting & Sculpture Weeks, using sculptural techniques with materials like cardboard. The program also includes a Gallery Installation and an art installation for the 13th Annual Youth Art Show, along with Lynden Sculpture Garden outdoor experiences that incorporate monumental outdoor sculpture, temporary installations, and the natural ecology of hidden landscapes and unique habitats into all-senses-engaged outdoor activities.
• Ages: 6–14 years old
• Schedule: Week-long camps offered in June, July, and August with afternoon sessions from 1 pm–5 pm most weeks, plus one full-day option from 9 am–5 pm
• Price: Family membership costs $75/yr.
For 38 years, Walker’s Point Center for the Arts has been a creative home for youth, emerging artists, and community members of all ages, and has been a cultural staple of the Walker’s Point neighborhood since its founding in 1987. Walker’s Point Center for the Arts is a nonprofit organization in support of visual and performing arts and youth arts education, and its exhibitions feature both regional and national talent and encourage thoughtful social dialog and community engagement. The organization provides quality art experiences for all people and prioritizes Latinx, BIPOC, and LGBTQ voices in its work, and is a powerful advocate for underrepresented artists in Milwaukee and beyond.
Scholarships are available for Summer Art Camp for youth aged 6–14 who participated in programs during the 2024–2025 school year or who live or attend school in the 53204 area and demonstrate financial need. The 13th Annual Youth Art Show Opening Reception is scheduled for July 18, 2025, with gallery hours Tuesday–Saturday from 1 pm–5 pm during exhibitions. Walker’s Point Center for the Arts often shares its space or partners with other organizations and programs to promote collaboration and intercultural exchange, and is a partner for the 2026 Flavors of Africa + Diaspora Wisconsin statewide cultural celebration dedicated to empowerment through food, art, and storytelling. The Building Futures Campaign is a $200,000 capital initiative to secure the long-term stability of the facility and expand programs. COVID-19 protocols for the program include mandatory mask wearing and a maximum of 15 people at a time in the building.
