The Racine Theatre Guild is a volunteer-based community theatre that was founded in 1938 and later greatly expanded its education program in 2011 to offer three terms—fall, winter, and summer—of theatre classes for adults and kids. Racine Children’s Theatre, founded in 1933 and merged with Racine Theatre Guild in 1999, presents a series of short plays and musicals intended to engage young audiences with theatre, with Packy the Racine Children’s Theatre elephant mascot welcoming the audience and introducing each performance. The organization annually offers a season of eight mainstage plays and musicals, produces daytime performances and workshops for schools, and presents additional events such as the Signature Spotlight Concert Series, RTG Limited Edition performances, and Jean’s Jazz Series. The mission of the Racine Theatre Guild, Inc. is to engage in the theatre arts through activities and productions of high standards and artistic integrity that provide educational, cultural, avocational, recreational, and entertainment opportunities for residents of Racine and southeastern Wisconsin. The Guild has received recognition including the State of Wisconsin Governor’s Award in Support of the Arts in 1994 and has represented the United States at international theatre festivals in Austria, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Japan.
