About
Racine Theatre Guild – Theatre Classes offers theatre classes for kids and adults to sharpen their acting, dancing, and singing skills. The program is part of a volunteer-based community theatre that also presents mainstage plays and musicals, Racine Children’s Theatre productions, Jean’s Jazz Series, Comedy Tonight, the Signature Spotlight Concert Series, and RTG Limited Edition performances. Theatre classes for adults and kids are described as designed to start friendships, build confidence, learn teamwork, and use imagination.

The Racine Theatre Guild was founded in 1938 and is one of Wisconsin’s oldest continuous community theatres and one of the largest in the Midwest. It presents a season of eight mainstage plays and musicals each year, along with Racine Children’s Theatre short plays and musicals intended to engage young audiences with theatre, musical concerts featuring musicians and singers from throughout the Racine area, and unique performances from comedy acts to one-night-only events. The organization offers theatre trips to Chicago and New York City, as well as daytime performances and workshops for schools.
The mission of the Racine Theatre Guild, Inc. is to engage in the theatre arts pursuing activities and productions of high standards and artistic integrity that will enrich and ensure a better quality of life for the residents of Racine and southeastern Wisconsin by providing educational, cultural, avocational, recreational, and entertainment opportunities. The Racine Theatre Guild has hosted and participated in international theatre festivals and cultural exchanges in Austria, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, Ireland, and the Soviet Union, and has received the State of Wisconsin Governor’s Award in Support of the Arts. Jean’s Jazz Series, created in memory of Jean Mooney and benefiting the Racine Theatre Guild, has grossed over $130,000 to benefit the organization, and the Signature Spotlight Concert Series features a talented area high school student as a Spotlight Star during each performance.
Norman McPhee is/was managing/artistic director, Douglas Instenes becomes managing and artistic director, and Rob Kroes is the director of the Signature Spotlight Concert Series. In 2011, the Racine Theatre Guild greatly expanded its education program, offering three terms (fall, winter, and summer) of theatre classes for adults and kids. In 2021, the Guild produced a virtual production of “The Laramie Project” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
