First Tee — Southeast Wisconsin offers junior golf programs and golf-based personal growth programs that use the fundamental teachings of golf. Participants take part in creative activities and instructional programs that integrate the game of golf with a life skills curriculum.
Founded in 2004 as a collaborative effort with the Wisconsin PGA Junior Foundation, the organization was formerly known as the First Tee of Milwaukee County and transitioned in 2015 to First Tee — Southeast Wisconsin. Its mission is to enable kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges by integrating golf with a life skills curriculum that creates active learning experiences focused on inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience. The program is designed as a place for participants to learn life skills and character lessons such as responsibility, courtesy, honesty, and integrity, which are described as values inherent in the game of golf, and to equip youth with skills related to following their dreams, advancing academically and athletically, strengthening social abilities, and becoming productive members of their local community. First Tee — Southeast Wisconsin states that it seeks to grow its programs by offering more instruction and enhancing programs at a wider number of facilities throughout Southeast Wisconsin. It is a 501(c)(3) organization and states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, and that it is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for staff, clients, volunteers, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
