Since 2012, Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff has operated in Northern Arizona and began with 1 Club and 50 members, now serving over 700 youth in 6 sites in Coconino County and Navajo County. The mission of Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need the Club most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The organization’s Formula for Impact focuses on Fun with a Purpose, Academic Success, Be Great, Do Good, and Healthy Choices, and Club kids receive healthy snacks and a hot dinner included in their program fees. Financial aid is available so cost does not prevent participation, and scholarships are often given to cover the membership cost for children and teens from families in need.

The Club offers programs described as enriching, educational, entertaining, and interactive, and it describes its out-of-school-time programs as award-winning and focused on fostering self-confidence and positive relationships with others. The City of Flagstaff partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to increase services, and a second facility, the Flagstaff Recreation Center in the Sunnyside neighborhood, is funded and run by the city, while the Club also operates three Native American Dormitories in Holbrook, Winslow and Flagstaff. Leadership for the local effort has included the Cogdill Branch Director, Amy, Elizabeth Anderson as the director of community enrichment services at the city of Flagstaff, and City Council member Coral Evans. Elizabeth Anderson stated, “We are very excited to have a Boys and Girls club in Flagstaff. Having previously been involved with the Club I have seen firsthand the positive impact it has on school-age youth in the communities they serve.”

The Club states that it provides a safe, positive environment and offers life-changing programs that build confidence and character, and that every dollar invested into an area Boys & Girls Club returns $9.60 in current and future earnings and cost-savings to the community. Children may bring an electronic device such as a tablet or cellphone, but it may only be out during designated technology-specific programming or if properly communicated with the Program Director.
