Messy Makers
Messy Makers backyard garden art studio, 1731 Moreland Dr., Alameda, CA
About
Messy Makers offers classes that focus on PROCESS ART, where children take part in activities that emphasize the making and the doing rather than the final product. The program also offers Fairy House Workshops and Fairy Furniture Workshops as additional art experiences.
• Ages: 18 months–10 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday–Thursday in 45-minute blocks, with 10 classes in a semester and automatic billing at the beginning of March, April, and May
• Price: Siblings get a 10% discount.
Messy Makers describes itself as a unique art studio for toddlers and preschoolers, or kids ages 18 months–5 years old, with additional classes for elementary school–age students and weekend Fairy House and Fairy Furniture Workshops for kids going into 1st grade and up. The program is led by Amy Seefeldt, Instructor and Owner of Messy Makers. Amy is an Alameda parent with children at Alameda High School and Lincoln Middle School and also teaches art at Temple Sinai Religious School in Oakland.
One parent, Colette G., describes Messy Makers as “a great, developmentally appropriate way” to expose her daughter to art and says she recommends it to others with toddlers. Another parent, Molly L., notes that her child has attended since just over a year old and mentions a class format that has included free art exploration, a project, storytime, and outdoor play time, and that she has enrolled in three semesters. A third parent, Mia K., shares that their family refers to class days as “paint class” days and calls them their favorites.
