Albany Aquatic Center Swim School offers swim lessons for children ages 6 months to 13 years. The program includes Tiny Tots Level 1 and Level 2, Aqua Tots Level A, B, and C, and Youth Level 1, 2, and 3. Class notes include swim diapers for some levels, adult accompaniment for Tiny Tots, and prerequisites such as floating, bobbing, freestyle, and backstroke skills.

Programs

  • TINY TOTS LEVEL 1 — 6 months-2 years · Swim diapers are required. Prerequisite: must be 6 months of age on the first day of class. Must be accompanied by an adult. Exit age: 2 years old.
  • TINY TOTS LEVEL 2 — 1.5-3 years · Swim diapers are required. Prerequisite: must be 2 years of age on the first day of class. Must be accompanied by an adult. Exit age: 3 years old.
  • AQUA TOTS LEVEL-A — 3-6 years old
  • AQUA TOTS LEVEL-B — 3-6 years old · Swim diapers are required for those not 100% potty-trained. Prerequisite: Aqua Tot-A exit skills and comfortable in the water and able to bob independently.
  • AQUA TOTS LEVEL-C — 3-6 years old · Prerequisite: launch/streamline to the instructor 5 feet + front/back float. Builds on floats, glides, freestyle, breathing, and elementary backstroke.
  • YOUTH LEVEL 1 — 5-13 · Prerequisite: launch/streamline to the instructor 5 feet + front/back float or is 6 years old. Introductory level teaching the progressions of freestyle.
  • YOUTH LEVEL 2 — 6-13 · Prerequisite: successfully complete youth L1 or freestyle arms 10 feet with 10 seconds of floating on their back.

  • General schedule: Swim lesson sessions will generally show 1-2 weeks prior to enrollment. Fall 1: 8/24-9/26 (no lessons 9/7). Fall 2 M-FRI lessons: 9/28-10/30 (no lessons 10/12). Sat lessons: 10/3-12/12 (no lessons 10/10, 10/31, 11/28).

About the provider

The mission of the Albany Aquatic Center is to promote healthy lifestyle and development through knowledge of swimming and water fitness principles. It also states a goal of providing a safe environment of fun and fitness opportunities for Albany students and the community.

Owned and operated by the Albany Unified School District. Starting January 2025, students need a prerequisite skill assigned to their account. All classes have waitlists. No refunds or makeups. No lesson fees are refunded for environmental cancellations; staffing/pool maintenance/internal issues receive credit to the Activenet account. Pre-registration is necessary. The district reserves the right to cancel sessions due to low enrollment and to hold lessons in either pool. A child can take only 1 private lesson during a session.
