• Ages: 1.5–7 years old
• Schedule: Class is 2 hours
The Oak Tree Playhouse is a nature/play-based Parent and Me class with no drop offs, with an approximate age range of 1.5–7 for the Parent and Me Class and 1.5–5 for the Play Based Class. The class is based on a strong passion for play-based education and the belief that children learn and engage more deeply when they lead their own exploration through free play rather than through teacher-led activities. Children are supported with developmentally appropriate activities in a respectful, nurturing, and inclusive environment that is nature-enriched and carefully designed to act as a “third teacher,” using natural and reusable materials and open-ended materials such as blocks, leaves, dried floral, dirt, and acorns. The program focuses on cognitive, social/emotional, physical, and linguistic development, with a goal to help children engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, and feel the joy of exploration. The curriculum is focused on diversity and inclusion, and they foster diversity and welcome all families with open arms, showing this through literature, art activities, a wide range of rich play materials, and by showing children how to engage with the community.
The program is led by Yuka Nakanishi, a Certified Early Childhood Educator, certified teacher of play-based Early Childhood Education, and mother of two children. She holds an Early Childhood Education Teacher’s certificate from Diablo Valley College, has prior experience as an elite artistic swimming coach, and is fluent in Japanese. The Oak Tree Playhouse operates under Lic# 073409385.
