Drawn2Art Aptos Studio

Drawn2Art Aptos Studio offers realistic drawing, painting, clay sculpture, still-life, figure drawing, portraiture, landscapes, realistic animals, cartooning, and animation. Students work with mediums such as pencil, colored pencil, crayon and watercolor crayon, markers, pen and ink, charcoal, watercolor paints, acrylic paints, and oil paints. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced students follow individualized written programs based on their abilities, proficiencies, personal interests, and special needs, using a step-by-step method that starts with simpler two-dimensional drawing and then adds tone and color values to create three-dimensionality.

• Schedule: Year-round classes, with 1-hour classes for ages 4–6 and 1.5-hour classes for ages 7 and up

Drawn2Art Aptos Studio is a family-owned and operated business that has been in operation since 1986 and has not been franchised. The program states that it is devoted to teaching skill-based fundamentals and follows the philosophy that “creativity follows mastery,” with a focus on a strong foundation of artistic skills. The curriculum is described as a high quality fine art program that goes beyond cut and paste and arts and crafts, and includes still-life, figure drawing, portraiture, landscapes, realistic animals, cartooning, animation, clay sculpture, and more. The program states that it teaches students to “see” lines, shapes, color, and tones in objects and in life to understand the fundamentals of drawing and painting, and that it does not promote rote teaching but promotes purposeful teaching. The curriculum is designed, reviewed, and updated using feedback from teachers and students, and classes are held year-round for consistency and steady advancement.

The leadership team includes Art Director and Owner Rachael Cartwright, along with instructors Izabell Saldana, Rachel Dougherty (Instructor/Office Assistant), Zaina Usman (Instructor/Enrichment), Mia Brooke (Instructor/Enrichment), Sierra Masri (Instructor), and Nicholas Conte (Instructor). Drawn2Art Aptos Studio has been a recipient of the Walt Disney Motif Award and has been selected as one of the top five art programs in the nation. The program is an approved vendor for homeschool and states that it teaches homeschool and can become a vendor with homeschool groups.
