About
Santa Cruz Beach Volleyball Club offers beach volleyball through several structured programs, including the Young Ones Program (YP), FUNdamentals Training, Training Groups, the Summer Flex program, and events and tournaments. The Young Ones Program uses shorter clinics and 4-week programs, and can use special balls and equipment for players in grades 2–5. Training Groups function as the club’s beach “team” program and were established in the Bay Area in the summer of 2013.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: The year is split into four seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer), each with Young Ones Program (YP), FUNdamentals, and Training Groups, and each season includes a tryout for Training Groups. Young Ones Program runs in shorter clinics and 4-week sessions.
Santa Cruz Beach Volleyball Club was founded by Lucas Bol and was formerly known as Main Beach Sand Club. The club is a stand-alone, beach-dedicated volleyball program with a development pathway for youth athletes that is split into Elementary School, Middle School, and High School periods. The Young Ones Program is a no-cut program where all players are welcome to join, and FUNdamentals is a no-tryout program. The Summer Flex program is a flexible week-to-week option with Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced levels, a maximum 1–8 coach-to-player ratio per court, and a dedicated coach on each court overseeing and instructing players 100% of the time.
The club states that it features some of the most experienced, innovative, and skilled beach volleyball coaches in the area. Its mission is to operate as a beach-dedicated club and comprehensive beach volleyball program that offers complete and community-based instruction for player development, using current techniques and strategies from the national level. The program emphasizes lifelong learning and fundamental values such as confidence, integrity, responsibility, competitiveness, teamwork, communication, and work ethic. Its Training Groups program has produced more NCAA Division I beach volleyball athletes than any other program in northern California and has a tradition of producing college athletes playing for top NCAA programs. Santa Cruz Beach Volleyball Club also hosts events and tournaments that bring players and the community together to connect and compete.
